About Robo-prize tm
The idea of offering prize-money to help advance technology is not new. Throughout history, prize money has motivated people to achieve great things. Lindbergh would not have been the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic if it wasn't for the prize money. In fact, that was his main motivating factor!
"Today, the technological challenges are even greater."
Getting machines to "see" and "walk" and "think" on their own is not going to be easy. Building androids that will act like humans is considered the Holy Grail of science-fiction. But, everyday, this idea penetrates deeper into our psyche with television shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, and movies like Bicentennial Man.
When would the age of "real" androids dawn if left only to the big companies to develop? Believe me, big companies are working on this! But, they have stockholders to account to, and, some of the most incredible leaps in science and technology are usually brought about by the efforts of individuals working alone or in small groups. Some inventive geniuses quickly come to mind: Ben Franklin and Nicola Tesla with electricity; Marconi and Morse with the wireless; the Wright Brothers with powered flight; Edison with the light bulb; and most recently Dean Kamen with "IT" !
Here's where Robo-prize (tm) comes in ...
Simply stated "offer a challenge and a reward" to build an autonomous android (or human-like robot) that can fend for itself, in combat, against the best and baddest machines out there. If you've seen BattleBots (tm) or RobotWars (tm) on television, you know what this android will be up against! This is why the idea of Robo-prize (tm) is so important, and timely.
The winner of Robo-prize (tm) will be guaranteed a share in the profits of an internationally televised, pay-per-view battle, to be broadcast within months after determining that an android has been developed that has a chance to win this first-ever, android vs machine mega battle.
Depending on when this historic encounter takes place, Robo-prize (tm) will guaranty the winning android team a minimum of $1,000,000.00 (that's one meeeeellion dollars)! The prize money will increase each year by another one million dollars ( ie 2001 = $1M, 2002 = $2M, etc.) until we have our android champion. Win or lose, BOTH combatants in this event will share in the net profits from this pay-per-view spectacular. The amounts will be determined and agreed to prior to fight night.
